Mid century abstract fiber painting by Masayoshi Kasuagi (b. 1921), a Japanese artist and master paper maker. The dynamic composition, titled "Evolution", is crafted of hand dyed natural fibers and gold leaf on a panel with stepped frame border. The lower left corner with artist?s seal in the form of a hoju no tama; the reverse with gallery label. Included in an envelope is an exhibition list and personal letter confirming the composition was purchased from an exhibit of Kasuagi?s work in November, 1966 at the International House of Japan, Tokyo. Mid 20th century. 25" high x 35" wide x 1" deep.
