Japanese Isho-kasane dansu. A two section clothing chest with finely forged and chased hardware and solid persimmon wood drawer fronts with cryptomeria wood case. A highly uncommon combination of woods this chest must have been commissioned by a well to do merchant family of the Meiji Period (late 19th century). The elaborately crafted lock plates are in the form of Daikoku's treasure bag. Daikoku was the Japanese household God of Wealth and was known to carry a large bag filled with treasures. Meiji Period.
