Title: | TOGGLE ABSTRACT BURL WOOD |
Inventory#: | VE17236 |
Size: | 2.25" x 1.00" |
Country: | CHINA |
Price: | $275 |
An abstract naturally formed toggle of burl root wood. Fantastical objects found in nature that evolved slowly over time without the aid of man were revered by the Chinese. Fortunes were paid for wildly formed rocks that evoked images of dragons, demons or deities or simply stimulated an individuals' imagination. This small burl could either be a coiling snake (a renewed life) a grinning three legged toad (good fortune) or a dragon (virility) or is this simply a phallic symbol? What do you see? 19th c.
