A very unusual pair of collapsing bronze candlestands. Starting during the Edo Period with the increase in the number of people traveling craftsmen began fabricating items specifically designed to be taken on trips. The popularity of these small, folding or collapsable items was particularly prevalent amongst the samurai class who could afford well craft items for their frequent travels. The candlestands with three fold legs, removable bobeche, candle surround, and detachable ash receptacle and ash tweezers. Meiji Period (1868-1912)
