South Indian "mangalsutra," or marriage necklace, strung with hand rolled gold beads and "thali" amulet. The double thali amulet, or "irattaiyana thali," depicting "Lakshmi," the goddess of wealth and "Shiva Lingam," a symbol of fertility and the life giving manifestation of the male aspect. An auspicious thread of love and goodwill worn by women as a symbol of their marriage, the "mangalsutra" and attached "tali" are regarded as auspicious amulets sheielding the wearer from the evil eye and granting good luck to those in her presence. The beads and pendant fashioned of 20-22k yellow gold. Early- Mid 20th Century.
