Japanese finely cast bronze {mizu bachi} or water vessel placed in front of a shrine and used to rinse the mouth of impurities before entering. Cast in a Chinese style with surrounds of raised lion dogs, and stylized ruyi (tree fungus) representing good luck and on a base of stylized plantain leaves.
