Japanese two-section clothing storage chest, isho dansu from the Nihonmatsu region. The tansu of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Noted for its distinctive metalwork, this Nihonmatsu chest has characteristically heavy iron warabite shaped drawer pulls and large lock plates with keyhole covers in the form of a butterfly and the Three Friends of Winter, pine, plum and bamboo, symbols of longevity, resilience, and bravery. Meiji Period, 1868 - 1912.
